What is a DVI cable?

There are three types of DVI connectors: DVI-D, DVI-I, and DVI-A. DVI-D (True Digital Video) format is used for direct digital connections between source video and digital LCD monitors. This provides a faster, higher-quality image than with analog, due to the nature of the digital format. DVI-A (High-Res Analog) format is used to carry a DVI signal to an analog display, such as a CRT monitor or an HDTV. DVI-I (Both DVI-D and DVI-A) format is an integrated cable which is capable of transmitting either a digital-to-digital signal or an analog-to-analog signal, but it will not work transmitting a digital-to-analog or analog-to-digital signal. DVI-I contains both the digital and analog connections, (DVI-D + DVI-A).

What is a Dish Network Receiver?

A receiver is a set-top-box or converter that is necessary in order for Dish Network to deliver the huge amount of programming associated with satellite TV. A receiver decodes the channels and routes them to the TV set. All receivers have several basic features such as an Electronic Program Guide and Parental Locks. Upgraded receivers include more advanced features such as built-in hard drives for internal recording or High Definition Decoders. Each receiver includes a conditional access device; called a Smart Card, which ensures security, and allows Dish Network to tailor programming for each customer’s needs.

What is a Dish Network LNBF?

Each dish or antenna includes a Low Noise Block Feed, or LNBF. An LNBF is important because it receives the signal that is reflected off of the dish and translates the signal into information the receiver can understand. Most Dish Network systems today are sold with a DISH Pro Plus Twin LNBF which can receive signal from both 119º and 110º and hooks up to two receivers.

What A-La-Carte Programming does Dish Network Have?

Some Dish Network channels and packages are sold a la carte. There is a $5.00 per month Access Fee charged to customers if they do not also have a basic programming package. However, we recommend that a customer order the package that includes the channel instead of buying the channel a la carte. This is a better value for you the customer. At times, Dish Network initially offer services a la carte, but then put those channels into packages. Customers are allowed to continue to receive these on an a la carte basis for an extended period of time, unless they disconnect. Customers who had not already subscribed to the service prior to the change would then need to subscribe the packagae.

What are Dish Network’s Regional Sports Networks?

Dish Network provides in-market sports channels for subscribers to America’s Top 100 Plus, America’s Top 200, America’s Top 250, DISH Latino Dos and DISH Latino Max programming packages. These Dish subscribers will receive at least one Regional Sports Network (RSN) which is included in their package at no extra charge. Blackout restrictions do apply. Professional sporting events may continue to be blacked out for up to 24-48 hours until the Smart Card authorization is completed.

How does Dish Network Only Use 1 Cable For Their Dual Tuner Receivers?

Dish Network receivers, switches and LNB’s use DISH Pro technology that utilizes bandstacking which combines both the odd and even signals on one coaxial cable. The odd transponders are in the frequency range of 950 to 1450 MHz, while the even transponders are in the 1650 to 2150 MHz range. Because the frequencies are different, the signals will not interfere with each other. This means that bandstacking simplifies installations by using only one cable per satellite location to an external switch. The DISH Pro DP34 switch needs only one cable from each satellite location. This means that only one cable from each of the three satellite locations need to be connected to the three inputs on the DISH Pro 34 switch.
